The Day of Thunder

When you arrive, it seems like everyone in the village is in the headwoman's house, whether in the garden, on the porch, or in the hearth room.

The hearth room itself is set up with enough food, and enough variety of it, that it's a little bit shocking for such a small village. It mostly seems to be fish from the local stream, whatever can be caught, as well as some dried and salted meat. There's also a wide variety of vegetables and fruit that seem to be sourced from all over the empire, often dried or pickled, as might be expected at the end of winter. The cooked dishes are all fragrant with spices familiar and unfamiliar. Those who know Enrou's garden can guess that he likely sourced the seeds for them, or otherwise acquired them. A wide variety of grains are present, as well, rice, millet, and barley mostly.

"Thank you all for joining me. This evening is to celebrate you. We've had plenty this year thanks to all of your hard work and dedication. Your will made this festival a reality. You dreamt of the coming days, and they're finally here. I am grateful to all of you, and I hope that you all recognize the accomplishments and greatness in yourselves. This feast is an expression of love for one another, and for ourselves."

From a few different places nearby, you see a few people close their eyes and move their lips as she says that, as if speaking without a sound.

"As you know, if you need healing tomorrow, it will be tiring. Please rest well and fortify your energy."

Shang had been happily eating and drinking at the gathering. She didn't have any reason to suspect anything was afoot. In fact, they were found to have fewer of these sorts of gatherings further along the week. In fact, they might not be able to celebrate ever again, depending on what will happen. It was better to be happy that it happened, so to speak.
