"Well, when someone says something that's obviously wrong or inherently self-serving, especially at times like this, it's impossible for me to keep my mouth shut", he explained. "So I've caused a few problems with people who aren't used to being questioned...and I suck at apologizing."
"Oh," she said thoughtfully. "I mean, honesty is the best policy; I've always thought that, myself. But if you're not careful, well... I could see how that would get you into trouble."

"While it's possible to be careful and honest, some people are just too smooth", Norikage answered back. "You have to put it in the open and make them face it, even if their defense is like a wall of spears. Nobody ever won a battle without facing danger."

"That seems like a good philosophy," Ayako agreed. "Does it really cause your superior a lot of problems, though? I would hope that she'd see your honesty as praiseworthy."

"Well, it sounds like you are a good sport about it!" Ayako said, chuckling politely with him. "I hope I'm not nearly so much trouble to my superiors ... though, I suppose I probably still am, in my own way."

"I, uh, I don't think my superiors think I should be challenging them all the time," Ayako said, hiding a small smile behind one hand. "I know my mother didn't see it that way. I'm supposed to, uhh, 'respect and obey my elders.' But maybe it's different in your Clan."
