The Day of Thunder

Sora had proposed to Kumori that she spend some time helping the villagers in their training.

She had volunteered to help with the practice and spent a chunk of the afternoon helping with basics of fighting.

All the while a feeling of trepidation grew ever present in her mind…

It’s our job to protect these people… There are too many here that have seen too many winters… or too few…

She worked closely with a stripling who had arrived in the village a year ago with his younger sister… and her heart tore at her.

After the people were dismissed for the afternoon she found a place to sit beside the road that divided two plots of farming land…

She looked off to the south… shrouded in mist as it was… and contemplated what to do.

Walking through the farmlands a somewhat lost Kai wandered. He was headed to the forest but his tiredness seemed to have messed up his sense of direction. He had seen Han-Hei in the various activities so he approached the lady. He waited for her to finish her meditation.

Hearing the footprints approaching, Han-Hei turned her attention towards the noise.

Seeing the woman draw close brought a welcome smile and a nod.

“Good afternoon, friend.”

Kai smiled. "Good afternoon... I was wondering if you knew the way to the forest. I seem to be..." The man chuckled. "Weird... seem this fog is messing my sense of direction."

“It tends to do that.” She looked off towards the East.

“I could lead you out there if you’d like… What takes you out there?”

"Peace of mind..." Kai answered without thinking. He basically trained in a forest. "I enjoy the trees and watching nature be itself."

“Well then… I’ll help you get there and back.”

She stood up and dusted off her backside.

She then bowed a greeting, “I’m called Han-Hei. It’s nice to meet you.”

"I am Kai." He bowed. "What brought thee to this village?" Kai wondered.

“I was down south and got an invitation from Shinsei…” She began as she started walking down the path.

“How about yourself?”

"I was just traveling and was told about the festival. I could get some coin performing but I am not that good." He sadly admitted. "With these crazy nightmares... I know people need a break."

“What is your musical instrument of choice?” She asked.

"I play the flute." He nodded. "I also do a little acting on the side. I am not really that good but I can live by."

She nodded and continued down the path.

“Were we to have been born in happier times that sounds like quite the interesting life. How did you come by it? Your way of life that is.”

Kai lowered his head and sighed. "I... I... I wanted to best my sensei in acting but I know I will never be good enough so I travel to learn about the different clans way of acting." He sighed once again. "I am glad you like my music though."

“Who was your master? Anybody I should know? I’ve traveled pretty extensively.” She asked.

"He is no one important for what I have to do now." He sighed. It was clearly hard for him to say such words. "Eventhough he was my sensei and taught me all he could."

“That’s too bad…” She replied, not wanting to delve too deep into a sensitive subject.

“And now you find yourself here… at the end of the world potentially.”
