“Well, we are happy to have your assistance.” She replied.

“I care greatly for this empire and for the world it now protects. If there is any information that you have of the enemy… Please let us know so that we can be… ‘United’ in our understanding and make the best decisions as a pack.”

"I was not the brightest, nor the most learned, nor the most wise, of us. But the most clever fell to the corruption because they thought they could trick it and in turn got tricked. Maybe there's a first lesson there. That there are things against who subtle does not work.

The other lesson, you know with your mind, but not yet with your heart. A nightmare you are fighting. A dream, an idea, a story. Only a greater dream can defeat it. It's not important if the sword at your belt is sharp or rusty. What's important is to believe enough in your abilities that you can win a swordfight with an oar when your opponent has steel. For in the dream, wood can slice steel, and mortals can kill the divine."

“I see…” She said in a contemplative tone.

“So… self-doubt… is perhaps one of our greatest enemies.”

"Talking about facing fear, easy.

Actually facing fear, hard."

She tilted her head slightly.

“I’ve faced my share of fear… I’m sure many others will be the same.”

"Have you? When you're in your bed at night, alone in the dark, sleeping or not sleeping, does it feel like you've defeated your fears?"

“I have faced and defeated many a fear… imagined or real.” She replied.

"That's good then. You should tell more people. That example thing you mention earlier."

“I should, shouldn’t I?” She replied with a nod.

"Or show. Show would be even better. But some things hard to show."

“I think most of the time I do better showing than telling.” She replied.

“I’d love to see you in action as well.”

"Would need... an enemy? An actual enemy, not a mock enemy. Something I can be all claws and fangs with.

The darkness will certainly send enemies at us soon. But might be too late to set example."

“Shit comes when it comes. Early or late there’s examples to be shown.”

"To go back to the beginning, as a good ending always echoes where it all started, as the guardian of the pack, didn't you already have opportunities to teach by example? Doubly so as the role of the guardian and the teacher can easily overlap, as the one who stays at home to protect and raise the next generation while the hunting party is away."

She chuckled, “I’d pity anyone who has to learn from me as their teacher. Set an example I can do… Describe how others should do…”

She shook her head, “I don’t do well having others tell me what to do… So I don’t really deserve to tell them what to do either.”

"The great teacher is not the adult form of the good student. Spider taught the people many things, from fire to written words, and yet, if you asked them to do anything, they would do something else just to be contrarian. And do you think someone like Shinsei has ever done what he was told to do?

Maybe there's one fear you haven't defeated after all."

"Exactly that. Slipping into a commanding or teaching role without feeling inadequate."

She tilted her head.

Is that my fear… Being in charge… Telling people to do stuff…

“I don’t know if its a fear… but it’s not something I want.”

"Tiger would only understand fear as fangs and claws. The fear of the prey for the predator. It was simple.

Since I've got one of these weirdly wired human brains, I've learned there were many other sorts of fear. Among them, the one that is most puzzling to me, but that I experience all the same, is that doubt thing, when you don't do something needing to be done before it might not be done well.

It's really a problem from a species whose head is too big for their body. Too much thinking even when thinking is not needed."
