The Day of Thunder

"Possibly centuries." she sighed. "I still don't fully understand its nature, but this village has been here for a very long time. And, I don't think its unique qualities are new. I'm not sure that's Yume-Jigoku's influence, but it's better suited to take advantage of them."

That sounded a lot like they were fucked, but if Lady Anjing heard he was thinking loke that she would probably scold him. "I don't think I have anything I can argue with there."

"That all just makes the villagers seem all the more untrustworthy though. Unless somehow most of them are just unwitting dupes."

"I don't think most of them understand what's going on." she responded. "They must be aware of the strangeness that surrounds them, but they've been kept safe and treated well. They are trusting in those they know."

"Probably frightened too." Much like a herd of cattle when predators are on the loose. "But they've been told to smile and forget it while this place takes a boat ride to Jigoku for years. So, ignoring their own wellbeing is probably well ingrained into their system." It was sad in a way, and whoever was captaining the boat was a monster to say the least.

"If they are all already damned, it's not going to be a pleasant ending here."

"It's unfortunate." she nodded. "However this ends, it will be difficult for everyone involved."

"That's ture." Kenji agreed with a nod. "But my father used to say that nothing worth doing is easy."

"Not that that probably applies here." He finished trailing off.

"If something is worth doing, it doesn't matter how hard it is." she nodded. "Especially what will need to be done here."

"Yes." His lips curled into a crooked smile for a moment.

"But I've taken up enough of your time Ryoshun-san. I should really let you get back to your afternoon."

"I appreciate your help."

"Any time, Akodo-san. We're all in this together."

"That we are." With those words he offered the woman a departing bow before moving out into the rain once again.
