I'd argue you can have remorse and guilt after a malicious act and do something to try and right that wrong which (to me) is what happened with Hantei, as he had no idea his actions caused Hisomu to fall into hell
I tend to lean more into never ascribe to malice that which can be explained with error.

To each there own I suppose. But should I hold you to a similar standard if you err? ;)
