The Day of Thunder

As sleep took Han-Hei that evening she found herself far away…

The halls of her home lay dark… no sound emanated from anywhere but the pounding of her feet.

She walked past an open shoji leading into the courtyard… Fires burned in the distance outside of the city.

She came and sat at a table… documents lay strewn across it in a mess of reports.

A man came in… face half-covered by a mask… wearing a Bat-insignia alongside that of the Emerald magistrates.

“Jiyo-sama, the outer walls were breached… They’ll soon be here.” Her companion of many years said to her.

“Jiyo-sama?” She asked in reply.

On her desk was a bronze mirror… She picked it up… A burned face… Her mother’s face and yet… her own face stared back at her.

She looked down to see her kimono all in emerald… And looked back up in confusion.

“This is the end… I’ll be off to care for my family before the enemy arrives.”

No… This isn’t our end… I won’t let it be.

She then faded into restful sleep.
