The nightmares are especially bad in content tonight. Shinjo, her face split in a terrible grin, bathed in the blood of Otaku's children and her own. Ide crushed beneath hooves of obsidian. Mother and Jin and her brothers, skeletal with starvation, all tearing one another apart with claw-like fingernails and blunt but hungry teeth.
You know, the usual--just a little bit worse and all at once.
But Otaku knows it's a dream this time. She holds that pearl of truth close as she walks through the awful scenes, and that makes it easy to bear. Eventually--not long at all, really--the nightmares run their course and she walks into the quiet, bright meadows of clean dreaming, there to spend the rest of the night in peace.
