The thing emerged from the corner of the room, seeming to coalesce from the shadows themselves and shamble slowly forward toward him. As it gets closer, he can finally see it.

His clothing is ragged as if he hasn't been able to get anything new in years. A bottle of liquor is clutched in one hand and a katana that has seen better days in the other. In addition to the damage and dirt, the mon has been torn from his kimono. This figure of him was a ronin. Somehow, he knew it as it came closer. Cast out, a failure and disappointment to everyone. The katana dripped with blood, sullied by the blood of the innocent it now preyed upon to make ends meet.
Finally, as it gets close to him, it vanishes.
