Day 4, Lucid Dreaming, The Wild Ohta

Post by Reiko Ohta »

Ohta didn't fear sleeping here so much as she was weary of it. What she had learned today hadn't helped. People got used to it? They adapted? What happened to those who didn't?

As she found the thought moving out of her mind and her consciousness fading, she slowly became aware she was dreaming. This was odd, because... well, she was AWARE she was DREAMING. She found herself in a field of tall grass, trees on all sides, the sounds of animals strangely absent.

She was alone, but... not alone. It was like she was being watched. Judged. Waited upon. She wasn't sure what it all meant, but it certainly made an unusual sensation, like she was on a stage. She spoke up, in case there was an audience, "I don't know what you want, but I will not be a toy."

There was conviction and sincerity in her voice, and she suddenly became aware of sounds from the forest in front of her, like a large animal moving about. Deciding it was a sign, Ohta moved through the grass towards the sound, walking carefully and quietly, just as she'd been taught.

Soon she was out of the grass and in the woods, dappled green light coming from the leaves above and revealing a... creature. It was large, horned, furry... and like nothing she'd ever seen before. Like nothing she'd ever imagined before, frankly. Was this HER creation, her dream? Or was this the doing of the watchers?

Regardless, at least she seemed in control of herself, and she wondered... did that mean she could leave? She could tell the beast was looking for her, to hunt and eat her alive. And as much as she would usually be sure she'd just wake up after that, she didn't want to take that chance. The one thing she was sure of though? This place was just like home. THAT part was likely hers. And if there was one thing she knew about the lands near her home, it was how to hunt... and be hunted. To walk softly and leave no trace.

Sniffing the wind, she carefully walked down wind from the beast, being careful not to step on any twigs. It was tense; She didn't know if it had any special senses or ways of knowing where she was, but she counted on it being no more capable than your average bear or wolf. Soon she was out of the woods the other side, the beast sniffing and moving towards the field where she'd been. A normal person might have taken off running at this point, but she knew better. Slow, steady... breathe in and breathe out. One step at a time away from danger. Fool the hunter, and you were never there.

Soon, she wasn't sure which step it was, she was out of the dream and lying on her futon, staring at the roof of her tent. It was odd, but she felt a kind of... connection to what had just happened. Where had it come from? Was it for her, or... she thought about going to check on Reo, but yawned instead. No... it wasn't important. Somehow, she knew sleep was more important at this point. She would check on people in the morning.
