I thought about taking Artisan: Painting with Kai's XP, then remembered Sakkaku had been clear it wasn't her calling (she was trying to paint a spider web dreamcatcher; before of course she was).

In regard to spellcraft, you can assess from the construction of it and what little you know of Nezumi magic that this ritual will essentially take a dream - so, a discreet unit of Yume-do, like an area of it or a being from it, like the Harbinger, or The champion, or a baku or whatever - and trap it inside the four scrolls that tell its story. The scrolls would then be split apart into their four directions to lock it.

OOC, the idea isn't too far off from the Black Scrolls, but the hows and whys are different, as well as potentially grabbing a whole dream-region within Yume-do with enough power behind it.

Non-shugenja needs:

- Solid materials for scrolls (I think also colorful ink would be good as well as high-quality made scrolls, usually by combining fabric and paper/parchment)
- Decorating scrolls in relation to its symbolic beast+virtues+story
- Accurate reads on the four cardinal directions
- Lore relevant to the Guardian Beasts or similar to construct the story
- Storytelling or similar skill to compose said story


Shugenja needs:
- The four elements in spellcasting, with most likely Void to tie it together/stabilise the ritual

Goju actually has materials that he'd be willing to donate.
He has Lore: Sea. Not sure how much help that would be. Maybe if any of the animals are sea based.

Note that the fog confounds direction finding, or those of us with Absolute Direction would nail that. Possibly the elements can help there with some commune questions?

Tai has craft skills that would allow for clay or stone depictions of critters. As noted, they'll be a bit crude.

Does not have a specific Craft skill for papermaking, but can sport a Phantom rank for it. Depending on Trait, magic might help enhance that roll.

Likewise has Spellcraft to aid in ritual creation.

Have Lore: Jade 2, Lore: Obsidian 1, Lore: Theology 2, Lore: Elements 2, Lore: Corruption 1, Lore: Shadowlands 1, Int 4, Artisan: Sculpture 2, Craft: Stone Carving 2, and Fire Kami's Blessing, which can help myself or others for +4k0 on a Lore roll. Also, Spellcraft 5 as of D5.

Earth 3, Fire 4. Affinity to Earth.

Friendly Kami if the spells are Sense, Commune or Summon for Earth.

Several bolts of linen, cotton, and hemp for sturdier scrolls, maybe?

And one Jade finger that could be ground to make the ink, perhaps?

Just need an in-character link up to bring all this in.

I have Poison 5 if we wish to add an extra layer of protection (with GM fiat), as the one I have been using does seem to turn the corruption of the enemy against themselves.

That might need more jade though as that is one of the key ingredients though

I expect the decoration will be with Calligraphy, but Hikaru does have 6k3 before void for painting.

Ok, in all seriousness now, Canary has provided the following for my idea. Looks like Satsuki will be working on the magical side of things, hopefully with cute-cute Chuchu for the dream-aspect, along with the other shugenja.

1. Just calling it Four Guardian Scrolls even if it will be constructed as something that connects together physically and spiritually. Maybe interlocking rods on the scrolls.
Canary: Sure, that could be neat. Presumably they can be parted as well to be stored in their destinations. (The scrolls can connect together, but will be broken a part to go to each cardinal direction for the ritual)
Interlocking rods:
Craft: whatever's relevant to the material they're using/Intelligence TN 25
Woodwork or other fitting skill goes here.


2. Constructing the scrolls
This will require making scrolls of high quality, using fabric as a reinforced back and cover to the paper/parchment. It should be decorated and written with good calligraphy. So that means the following:
Craft: Scroll/Intelligence TN 20, FR for those with the Elemental Magic advantage.
Calligraphy/Intelligence TN 20
Artisan: Painting/Awareness TN 20 - Saru Shang




3. Content of the scrolls
Canary: The legends of the beasts are worked into the seal that will be on the back of the scroll. The story contained within the scroll needs to be of the thing that is being contained. So, for instance, if you wanted to contain the Champion of Jigoku, you might write the story of it being defeated by the Thunders. Or if you wanted to shut it up in the whole area, around the village, the story could be written of its corruption and then being sealed by the heroes.
Non-magic needs:
Perform: Storytelling/Awareness TN 40 - Saru Shang
Lore: Spirit Realms/Intelligence TN 25 or Lore: Myth & Legend/Intelligence TN 25 - Hiruma Naraku (maybe having Kai to assist will give some bonuses, given their first-hand experiences)


Magical needs:
In keeping with the inspiration of the Black Scrolls, each of the four scrolls contain an elemental spell as according to its symbol (so Air, Earth, Fire, Water). The spell held within the scroll will become corrupted due to its interaction with the Jigoku-part of Yume-Jigoku, so while each Shugenja can create a spell each for their element, it's a spell that will both bolster the Thunders but also become a corrupted spell afterwards (just as Isawa's scrolls in the original Day of Thunder).

Spellcraft/Intelligence TN 30 (TN 20 for Chuchu or Chouri*) - Chuchu
Additional Spellcraft/Intelligence rolls at 15+5x the spell's mastery level to develop the spell

With the shugenja we have available, the spread seems to be:
Air - Nao (thanks to her ability to tap into Agasha's teachings)
Earth - Tai
Fire - Satsuki
Water - Tae-soo





*= I would much rather prefer that we keep it to PCs to avoid the topic of mistrust and what-not. There's just too much trouble there that I just don't want to deal with personally.

Would Cooperative Rolls be useful for any of the construction or lore parts of the project? (This might be a Canary question rather than a Satsuki question...)

There are two different types of Cooperative Rolls.The first involves a group working together toward one end, without significant consequences for failure. An example might be multiple shipwrights working on a new seagoing vessel. In these cases, one individual is chosen from those participating to make the Skill Roll. He receives a bonus to the total of his role equal to the combined Ranks of all other participants in the Skill in question.
