[Otomo Akutou]

Events of earlier have upset much.

Periods of upset are opportune times to strike.

Scouting ahead interdicts incoming attacks--or at least blunts their effect.

So Akutou is once again out in the rainy woods, leaving what he thinks are clear signs for comrades to follow as he skulks between the trees in his own hush, eyes searching through the dripping wet.

Good thing he has his hat.

Kai was always called to nature and seemed that finally he was somewhat refreshed. He had seen the post in the camp and wanted to contribute so quietly he headed for the forest with his bow in hand.

He found the man hiding that made the trail.

"Any luck?" He whispered rather quietly to the Stag.

"S' far, nothin'," replies Akutou, softly. "But that's a good thing, more'n likely."

He points, a small motion, nothing more than an extended finger. "That way's where we went yesterd'y. 'S why I'm headin' this way. Ain't reconnoitered out here yet."

"You done any 'round here last day'r two?"

Goju followed the Stag on the mission. He couldn't do much. He slept through a battle apparently. He even heard Matsu got injured. But he could do this. he hoped it was enough.

Kai looked at the pointed direction and shook his head. He continued to whisper. "I haven't seen anything outside the ordinary. Except for Kai looking for a mount." Kai continued to watch the surroundings.

"Ain't you Kai?" Akutou asks.

"Yes, but there is another named...Kaisu... I forgot her full name, she just go by Kai." He whispered once again.

There's a few different potential spots for an ambush. Some heavy brush on either side of an obvious animal trail, sturdy limbs on climbable trees.

A tapir hanging out in some of that underbrush.

Nothing too unusual.

...a tapir? Akutou thinks. That ain't right. This's s' far outside their range it ain't even funny.

He nocks an arrow to his bow and focuses his attention on the animal. A slow point of his finger flags the animal to Kai, and he slowly draws back the string, lining up his shot.

It lets out a pained sound, and then Akutou hears a panicked voice in his mind. WHAT THE FUCK, MAN?!

The voice surprises Akutou enough that he falls on his ass.

"Th' hell were that?" he asks. "Th' hell's in m' head?"

The tapir emerges from the bush, limping with its ears thrown back. WHY'D YOU SHOOT ME WITH AN ARROW, ASSHOLE? WHAT DID I DO TO YOU?!

"You c'n talk‽" Akutou exclaims, incredulous. "Since when c'n game talk?"

Any pretense of stealth is well and truly abandoned at this point.

And then Akutou hurriedly stands, readying his bow again.

"Th' hell are you, anyway?"

[Canary]

I'm not GAME, i'm a baku! It exclaims.

"Th' hell's a baku?" Akutou asks, still incredulous.

He does not lower the bow.

He glances in the general direction of the others. "Either o' you know?"

"I have no idea." He turns to the baku. "Sorry about that. We did not realize you were a baku. Could you tell us your name? I am Hisomu Goju of the Spider Clan."

Goju tries to sound friendly enough. At least until he could figure out if it was corrupted.

Kai wasn't the smart one in this deal. He remembered his dream. "Are you here to eat dreams?" he asked the weird question.
