The Day of Thunder

Participation: Four Characters (one slot is given to Nanzi Ai if she wishes)

A moaning wail floats through the village. You are the first on the scene, before you to your horror you see a man standing in the middle of the graveyard his mouth yawning open impossibly wide, his skin paler than the purest snow but with sickly blue veins running through it, he is surrounded by three dead bodies emaciated and wizened. Through the yawning mouth the wail emits and slowly it turns to a hideous laugh as the sound of crunching bones fills the air, the man’s arms lengthening and disjointing grotesquely. As dark energy falls off the figure in waves the ground around him disturbs as bodies in various stages of decay burst from the ground dragging themselves out of the grave dirt, the bodies around him rising in unison. Their movements are jerky and unnatural but quicker than one would think for a long dead corpse.

Rules:
Combat thread, when you join please post Initiative along with relevant combat stats. As you join the thread also make a test against Fear 3 (make a willpower test TN 20 adding your honor rank as a bonus. Pass you are unaffected, fail and you add a -3k0 penalty to all your rolls this combat.) A character who rolls 5 or less is frozen in terror and suffers the stunned condition. Characters stunned in this way may only take one of two actions on their turn, they may take a complex action to retry the test (with fear penalty) if they pass they no longer suffer from stun but are still affected by the fear. Characters stunned by this fear may instead take a complex action to flee the combat removing themselves from combat but will suffer honor loss for fleeing battle. Alternatively characters hear whispers of temptation offering them courage in the face of death. A character may, instead of suffering the effects of fear, gain .5 taint and suffer no Ill effects from the failed roll.

The unattended reanimated dead are also moving to escape the graveyard and sow havoc among the village. A player may, as a free action, make noise drawing the attention of any unengaged undead within 20 feet who will now target them. For every undead that escapes all characters in the event lose .1 honor

Unless the undead retreats, zombies in the streets.

She'd told that woman that the graveyard was cursed. The river was cursed, the garden was cursed, the forest was cursed, the mine was cursed. The whole damn village was cursed and now the dead were rising, and Anjing cursed.

"You didn't hear that." She mutters as an aside, slowing her charge into the graveyard for a moment to take stock of the situation. Thank the fortunes this late in the day people were mostly heading back to their homes or tents, but if any of these corpse walkers got out of the graveyard there was no telling what damage they could do.

Holding her weapon steady she glances at the brave warriors by her side...

Genji was on the scene, his hand on his blade as he watched the figures emerging. Glancing over his fellow combatants (near retirement), he braced himself for COMBAT WOMBAT.

Ai arrived in her kit, she was just finishing her patrols when she saw the commotion and came as quickly as she could. Was this… no… not the gentle old man. This was the true curse and evil of Yume-Jigoku, that it could do this to such souls.

She hoped she was wrong, but steeled herself.

Mask in place she was ready to battle alongside these heroes of the Empire.

Ai frowned, she did not like tussling with zombies, well anything that was unliving really. The smell was the worst part. She rushed forward to the closest. Her blade drawn in a flash leading with a strike and then a secondary attack to deadly effect to most mortals… but this was well one of the unliving.

Still her blade was keen and swift.

She looked at Kujo and said, “Kujo-san! Not like this!”

Sora moved alongside of Ai, screening her with the haft of his naginata as he added his own efforts to taking the walking corpse down.

But then he dropped the polearm and drew his blade in a single fluid motion.

[Anjing]

As Ai and Sora move east Anjing moves to cut off the south corpse walker. The daimyo barrels forward, eyes narrowing on her target before she skids to a stop in front of it and twists her whole body into a thundering strike directly into the creature's head.

Genji went in an aggressive stance, running towards the Zombie almost i nfront of him, and aiming at the head, striking at it with strength(-ish).

The samurai move forward like a well Coordinated tide of brutal efficiency. Ai and Sora put down one zombie with teamwork.

Anjing Replaces a zombies head with a fine red mist with her proven mastery over heavy weapons.

And Genji slices perfectly through another's neck in a single stroke its head falling to the side and tumbling to the ground. It was as graceful as a decapitation can be.

Then hell broke loose. These were not the zombies jigoku usually creates they were fast sprinting at their attackers with claws bared. One crashed into Sora and sliced and diced the older man's arms. As two others ran for exits.

Genji's charge was brave and first a zombie attempted to crash into him but was turned away by the warrior's Reflexes. Then the thing that was once a man ran forward screeching, his impossibly long arms with black razor like talons reached across the battlefield and viciously attempted to disembowel the young man with two powerful swipes.

Ai rushed after the Northern most Zombie and unleashed two fancy and feinty cuts into it.

Sora actually laughed in the zombie's rotten face

Then he did his best to chops its head off, swinging his katana in an arc that connected with its neck.

Job done, he turned south to intercept the fleeing zombie there.

[For the corruption roll, I'm going out on a limb and saying 4k4+10 means he auto-passed.One finger of jade down by one use.
Light Armor provides Reduction 3, spending 1 void to reduce the actual damage to 15.

EDIT: Has been pointed out that unless I'm right and literally everyone else is wrong, Mister Void 2 can't do called shots.

Based on how Genji's fight went, going to assume that takes its head off.

"Stop that"

Without slowing Anjing hurtles past Genji, slamming her tetsubo into the head of the zombie reaching for him and pulping it with one action. Now her target was the big one.

Genji let out a heavy breath as the thing-man's attack hit. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?

While a lesser man would have backed down from such an attack, Genji was no lesser man, and counter attacked.

A greater man would have actually hit though. He wasn't a greater man either.

Sora cut into the zombie in front of him not enough to take it down but moved to engage the other undead cutting off its path. Both undead attacked the aging man claws slicing and ripping on his flesh through his armor.

Ai moved to the northbound zombie and in two masterful cuts sliced it to pieces limply falling back to the ground.

Anjing moved to crush the monster and her great weapon struck true but his flesh did not feel like a man's, rather it felt like the monsters she had fought before his body more solid absorbing the blow. It opened its mouth wider and sucked in a great breath Genji feels it drawing on his very soul trying to pull something from him. Anjing feels a slight tug but is otherwise unaffected.

“KUJO-san! This Ends Now!” she shouted and charged at the once sincere old man who feared death. Now he had become death… now he had become the enemy. Her heart pounded as she decided to take off the limiter and take it to the edge.

Sora was holding his own… the old man could fight. Hell had not chiseled his hard edges and Anjing was incredible, she needed to be heroic, she needed to be incredible. The strike played off her swiftness allowing her place her blade precisely where it needed to be to deal the most damage to her foe.

This was her Compassion for Kujo, to finally make him rest.

As the Crane bushi expertly slices at the undead Anjing comes at it from the other side, repeatedly pummeling Kujo's body with her club. She's seen Genji go down. Hopefully he was still breathing. But for now the focus is on stopping the fiend from working any more vile magics.

It was tough, she could feel the unnatural, impossible hardiness of its body. But nothing could withstand the beating it was taking from the assembled warriors forever.
